Project Overview
The City of Daly City is studying a potential road diet on Lake Merced Boulevard, which would reduce the road from four lanes to two and allocate space for installing protected bike lanes. This quick-build pilot project would allow the City to test safety and traffic operations in real-world conditions before making permanent changes. The study corridor connects directly to another quick-build project completed by the City of San Francisco on Lake Merced Boulevard as shown in the map.

Bicycle Lane Separation Alternatives
Alternative A: Bollards

- Placed at regular intervals between the bike lane and vehicle lane
- High visual contrast alerts drivers to the presence of the bike lane
- Relatively easy to replace if damaged
Alternative B: Traffic Exclusion Domes

- Low-profile, durable rounded markers that discourage drivers from entering the bike lane while minimizing visual clutter
- Traversable by large emergency vehicles for easier access without damaging the structure
Bus Stop Improvements
Option 1: Conflict Zone Markings
Option 2: Shared Bus and Bike Only Zone
